Copper Mountain, located just outside Frisco, Colorado, is a wedding venue that offers multiple ceremony and reception sites around the ski resort. Whether you’re having a ceremony at Koko’s Hut, cocktail hour on the porch at Grand Hall, or dinner at the Aerie, this location will encapsulate a mountainous wedding vision. As a local Copper Mountain wedding DJ, we’ll walk through the major details to help youi decide if this venue is right for you.
Ceremony Sites at Copper Mountain
Since a wedding always begins with the Ceremony, we’ll start here. All four of Copper Mountain’s ceremony sites (Super Bee, Koko’s, Aerie, and the Chapel) will capture breathtaking photos and stun your guests. You can’t go wrong with any of these ceremony sites. For this blog, we’re focus on the the upper-mountain wedding experience centered around the Chapel and Aerie Lodge.
The Gondola Ride & Guest Experience
Your slopeside adventure begins with a stroll through burning stones plaza in the Copper Mountain base area, shortly followed by a 12–15-minute gondola ride up the American Express lift to the Aerie restaurant and lodge. Once all guests arrive it’s only a few-minute walk down to the Chapel ceremony site. If your guests are from out of town, this will surely be another point of interest for them to get the full outdoorsy Colorado experience, especially since this site overlooks the Ten Mile mountain range.
Cocktail Hour at Aerie Lodge
Once the ceremony wraps up everyone will head back up the trail to the Aerie, which is when cocktail hour kicks off. Cocktail hour at the Aerie is indoor/outdoor hybrid, meaning guests can relax on the gondola patio, inside at the bar, or around the dance floor if they’re ready to show off some dance moves. Depending on the flow of your wedding, a weddings’ grand entrance, special dances, and/or speeches may take place at this point, otherwise it’s time for dinner!
Dinner Logistics & DJ Setup
If your wedding party is over 120 guests, Copper Mountain will prepare the downstairs location for dinner. When booking with DJ Bertie Co, we always maximize this space by stationing an extra DJ setup downstairs to ensure we can mix and make announcements as needed. If you’re under 120 guests and dinner is taking place upstairs, we always station an extra speaker in that room to ensure music and speeches reach everyone.
Dancing at 11,207 Feet
After dinner and any associated formalities (like toasts or special dances), it’s time to get the party rolling and dance at 11,207 feet. Wedding couples have the option to place the dancefloor by bar or inside the hallway to maximize space and speaker placement. At this point the indoor fireplaces are heating up and DJ Bertie Co will be mixing must-plays from the bride and groom and everything else to get all ages partying. Depending on the musical vibe you’re going for, we can get all ages involved, stick to a specific theme, or turn it up to a club style dance party!
Wedding End Time & Gondola Download
Aerie weddings at Copper Mountain typically end between 9:45 and 11:00pm. Mountain Operations keep the gondola running for all guests, vendors, and staff, which is where guests get to experience the late-night, peaceful gondola download back to center village.
Budget & Lodging Considerations
Overall, Copper Mountain tends to be on the more budget-friendly side if someone is looking to check the boxes of: a ski resort wedding, mountainous backdrops for photos, and including an adventurous component with the gondola commute. Despite Copper Mountain being a four-season resort, on-site lodging is still a relatively budget-friendly option, otherwise guests can stay within 30 minutes in Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon, Vail, Breckenridge, or Leadville. The Summit Stage public bus transportation system is also an option for any guests that are going to hit the after-party at Mulligans Irish Pub or Whiskey Bar in the base area.
Why Local Wedding Vendors Matter
Some ending notes: wedding vendor experience does matter at Summit County Ski Resorts, especially at this venue. Between the possibility of snowstorms (if doing a winter wedding), parking logistics, and needing to load equipment in a timely manner on the gondola, companies like DJ Bertie Co, Petal & Bean, and Chasing Luminance Photography are tried and true locals to ensure wedding success.
Mountain weddings work best when entertainment and planning flows seamlessly between spaces – without guests ever noticing the technical side.
